I have spent many holidays and special occasions alone for one reason or another. Mostly because I was either singing somewhere or I was single...or both. When I was in college, I remember sitting in the lobby of our all-girls dorm and watching the gentlemen pick their dates up one by one in the lobby. They were all dressed beautifully, and the guys usually had flowers for their dates. I remember always feeling lonely on those days. As I have matured, I look forward to each holiday and celebration with a new sense of duty to myself. To accept myself for where I am and simply enjoy the moment. Valentine's Day is no different. Get creative!

There are several ways to spark those creative juices on Valentine's Day especially if you are spending it alone. ! Stop thinking that you have to be amazing at it because that will definitely create a block. I recently got back in the habit of making a phone call to let my friends and family know that I am thinking of them. I also keep a list of friends that I know could stand to hear a friendly voice of support. Maybe they are starting a new project at work, or maybe things are not going that great. Hearing the voice of a loved one is a great way to feel connected and loved. It also shows others that we care.
