Aida — “Triumphal Zucchini & Tomato Gratin”

Another favorite aria of mine comes from Verdi’s Aida. It's is a story

of forbidden love set in ancient Egypt, filled with monumental choruses, shimmering orchestration, and the tension between duty and desire. Its world is one of gold, stone, incense, and ritual. I thought this dish would feel regal, yet inspired by simplistic authenticity.
When I think of Aida, Leontyne Price comes to mind. She was an amazing mentor and loved to work with singers. I remember hearing her in performance on several occasions and waiting for her after her concert with all of the other singers who were studying music. She was always so accommodating. I still have the book Aida that she signed.
