The summer solstice is the longest day of the year—a moment when the sun lingers just a little longer, inviting us to pause, breathe, and reconnect with our creative selves. For artists, this is more than a seasonal shift. It’s a symbolic reset. A reminder that light, warmth, and inspiration are always returning, even after long stretches of creative winter.

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, uninspired, or simply ready for a fresh start, you are not alone. The solstice offers performing artists an opportunity to realign our energy. Here are a few gentle rituals to help you welcome the season with intention.

1. A Sunlit Journaling Ritual

I try to find a bit of time out of each day to journal. When I discovered blogging, it became somewhat of a form of therapy for me. As an opera singer, I am often "in my own head". Incorporating writing into your daily life as a performing life is essential.

Why not find a quiet spot near a window or outside? Let the sunlight hit your skin. Create a few prompts that will help you flush out your reflections about being a performing artist.

3. A Simple Solstice Sip: Watermelon Hwachae

Celebrate the season with a refreshing bowl of Korean fruit punch. It’s hydrating, colorful, and joyful — everything summer should be. (Recipe linked in your June theme.)

4. A Sunset Reset

As the sun sets, step outside. Take three deep breaths. Say aloud: I welcome new light, new creativity, and new joy. Let the day close with intention.

The solstice reminds us that creativity is cyclical. You don’t have to bloom all year long. But today, you get to turn toward the sun again.
