Bridgette "Bri" Cooper is an independent classical singer, actress, arts advocate, producer, and recipient of several awards for singing. Ms. Cooper is a member of several prestigious organizations such as the Actors Equity Association, American Guild of Musical Artists, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the first African American Sorority founded in 1908, and the Bahamian American Association of Washington D.C., which celebrates her Bahamian roots. Bridgette is the first opera singer to run for U.S. Congress in 2018 and 2020. Her platform included the positive impact of the arts and the value of funding organizations that create "safe spaces" for engaging conversations, healing, education, and entertainment through the arts. Bridgette was recently accepted to the distinguished Maryland Touring Artist Roster recognized by the Maryland State Arts Council.

 

Outside of performing, Bri continues to give back to her community through music education, arts advocacy, and mentoring young adults with intellectual and physical impairments by creating work opportunities and support in the workplace. Her commitment to music through education earned her New Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and in 2019 she received Mentor of the Year from SEEC in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Over the years, Bri has honed her skills and built a reputation as one of the most talented and versatile mezzo-sopranos in the industry. She has performed in a wide range of productions, including Livent's National Broadway Tour of Show Boat, Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Washington National Opera, Charleston Symphony, The Israel Jerusalem Music Festival, Aspen Opera Theater, Opera Ebony Young Artist Program, and National Theater of Harlem, to name a few. Some of Bri's iconic roles include Rosemary (Picnic), Clara and Bess (Porgy and Bess), Carmen and Michaela (Carmen), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro) Mrs. Grose, Flora (La Traviata), Dorabella (Cosi fan Tutte), Arsamenes (Xereses), Zita (Gianni schicchi), Tituba (The Crucible), Hat Lady (Postcards from Moracco) and more.

 

Her guest soloist engagements include The Marian Anderson 73rd Annual Lincoln Memorial Concert, the Bahamas Independence Day Festival, The Inaugural Women Leadership Luncheon honoring former First Lady, Michelle Obama, International Caribbean Heritage Awards, The Key Biscayne Artist Series, New Haven Connecticut and Royal Palm Beach Celebrations of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., The 100th Celebration of Christ Episcopal Church, the Benjamin Banneker Museum, and more. Bri made her Carnegie Hall debut at the Weil Recital Hall in the Voices of the New Millennium Concert in New York City. Her performances are known for their emotional depth, technical precision, and powerful stage presence.

Bridgette was recognized as Trailblazer of the Year by Urban Buzz Magazine, Alumni of the Year from East Carolina University School of Music, Indie Artist of the Year, NASDAQ's “Ignite Your Ambition” campaign honoree, and 25 Women Changing World by Conversations Magazine. Her work as an opera singer was highlighted in Black Enterprise Magazine, The Curvy Fashionista, ABC Here and Now, FOX45 Morning Show, and Scholar Magazine. Her TV credits include producing and hosting her first international TV special "Bri Cooper and Friends: A Bahamas Independence Weekend", Hidden Treasures of Washington DC, and Operaluscious "Where Opera Meets Lifestyle".

In addition to her work on stage, Bri is also an accomplished recording artist, having released several recordings throughout her career. Her recordings have received critical acclaim and have helped to establish her as a versatile leading voice in the world of classical music. Bri is the recipient of several awards for singing including the Paul Robeson National Vocal Competition, the Marjorie Lawrence International Vocal Competition, the Bel Canto Competition of Chicago, the YWCA Studio Club Competition, International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women, Ms. American Achievement, and National Association of Teachers of Singing State and Regional Finalist.

Despite her success, Bri remains dedicated to her craft and continues to work tirelessly to improve her skills and push the boundaries of what is possible with her voice as an "indie-classical" singer. With her talent, dedication, and passion for music, she is sure to continue making waves in the music industry for years to come. Bri received her formal training from East Carolina University School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Bridgette also holds an M.B.A. in International Business.
